Standard Motor Products  (SMP) is a leading independent manufacturer and distributor of replacement parts for the automotive aftermarket industry.  We supply Engine Management and Temperature Control parts for motor vehicles – both domestic and imported.  Our parts are sold throughout the U. S. and North America, Europe and Asia by traditional warehouse distributors as well as major automotive retail stores.


The Greenville Operations Facility manufactures both traditional Gasoline and Natural Gas Fuel Injectors.  Many component parts are manufactured on site using CNC turning centers and other close tolerance metal cutting and grinding equipment.  These lines are vertically integrated with many component parts manufactured on site, injection-molding operations, winding machines, assembly and fuel flow setting and testing equipment.

Position Information


We are looking for a Production Department Supervisor to provide leadership in the Human Resource department.  Responsibilities will include: Leading a manufacturing production department in day-to-day operations being responsible for safety, quality, output and employee leadership.  Coaching and advising Shift Supervisory personnel in the performance of their responsibilities and providing performance feedback for taking accountability for the overall operation of the department.



Essential Functions:


  • Accountable to the Operations Leader for department performance in the areas of quality, cost, delivery, safety environment, and policy administration.
  • Support planning of and management of departmental goals and metrics.
  • Provide leadership for the operations associates in department and assist in leadership of Shift Supervisors to ensure success.
  • Ensure that associates and Shift Supervisors within department have the necessary resources and training to accomplish department goals.
  • Conduct coaching sessions as needed to improve associate and Shift Supervisor performance.
  • Recognize department and individual accomplishments.
  • Lead operations leadership and associates through conflict resolution processes and mediate conflicts as needed. Resolve grievances and escalate higher-level disciplinary situations as appropriate.
  • Provide resources, guidance and technical support to the teams for continuous improvement process activities.
  • Coordinate external support as needed by the operations leadership and associates to accomplish Dept goals and metrics.
  • Approve Leave/Vacation per plant and department policy.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate payroll data from Department..
  • Schedule/Plan/Prioritized production runs.
  • Track performance vs. schedule
  • Identify production issues.
  • Document disciplinary issues.
  • Maintain adequate people/skills mix to run department with manager.
  • Interview and staff area
  • Coach and give feedback to supervisory personnel
  • Conduct annual performance reviews for supervisory personnel
  • Enforce safety rules and company policies
  • Coordinate with Engineering/Maintenance/Management to resolve quality or downtime issues.
  • Enter data for production and scrap
  • Execute responsibilities for fire, weather or medical emergency.

Job Requirements


  • Requirements:

    • Minimum Associate Degree and/or 5 years experience in related field.
    • Demonstrated experience with leadership, setting goals with follow-up, disciplinary issues and policy enforcement.
    • Proficient with MS Office.
    • Good organizational and telephone communication skills.



    • Uses computer workstation.
    • Communicates verbally and in writing with team members.
    • Uses telephone, copier, fax and printer.
    • Standing/walking/sitting during 8-hour workday
