Job Description

Primary Responsibilities:

Perform the following activities: design verification testing as needed through all phases of product development; product validation testing at the conclusion of development; production audit testing; customer requested testing. Products being tested are both electromechanical and electronic. The types of testing include: analytical and endurance tests, characterization of customers associated equipment; environmental testing including, shock and vibration, etc.  The work includes specifying and overseeing construction and programming of specialized testing equipment. This position also involves significant hands-on involvement in lab activities.

Duties:

  • Recommend and review test plans with product development engineers and project managers. Conduct testing to prescribed standards using sound practices and good technical and business judgment.
  • Record details of tests, monitor progress, review results, assess pass fail performance and write or assist in writing both informal and formal reports.
  • Compile data from tests into readable format that may include statistical analysis and/or graphing of the data recorded.
  • Prepare or oversee preparation of product DVP&R reports related to new product development.  Appraise management of DVP&R progress when requested and provide summary report to management upon completion. 
  • Assess test requirements as compared to present capabilities and schedules. 
  • Work with engineers and management to meet a dynamic schedule and priority list.
  • Work with design and lab test engineering to create or modify prototypes, test samples, test setups, harnessing, and fixturing for design validation testing.
  • Work with manufacturing to modify or measure production items and ensure they are within expected operating parameters.

Other Responsibilities:

Participate in design reviews when requested.

Education and experience:

Commitment to safety and efficiency is required.  Good verbal and written communications skills are critical. Familiarity with common environmental test processes and with a diversity of lab equipment including environmental chambers, vibration equipment, multi-channel data acquisition systems, digital multi-meters, and oscilloscopes etc. is desired, but not required. Formal report writing skill and procedure documentation skills are a plus. Experience with test automation using PLCs and National Instruments LabVIEW a plus but not required.

 

Physical Demands:

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. May require walking primarily on a level surface for periodic periods through out the day.
