Product Design Engineering Technician

Greenville, South Carolina

Standard Motor Products is looking for an automotive Engineering Technician to work with project teams to develop non-destructive test procedures for prototype and production automotive parts.  The position will also be responsible for building and operating testing apparatus.  Results reporting and test validation will also be part of the responsibility.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

  • Develop test procedures for products based on performance specifications
  • Build testing fixtures to match specifications.
  • Calculate test parameters, pressure and electrical voltage requirements.
  • Develop test methodology
  • Write Standard Operating Procedures based on test methodology.
  • Install and remove prototype automotive parts in test vehicles.
  • Monitor and manage field testing of component parts.
  • Investigate non-confirming product and make recommendations.
  • Perform project work as assigned by the Engineering Manager.

 

Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • AS Degree in electronics or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with lab and production machinery.
  • Five or more years of lab or test experience.
  • Experience with mechanics of internal combustion engines.
  • Working knowledge CNC lathe set up and operation a plus.

 

Ergonomic Focus:

 

  • Standing and sitting at work stations.
  • Working at desk and computer, using phone.
  • Making adjustments to switches and dials.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs of parts and testing equipment
  • Standing/walking/sitting during 8 hour work shift.
