Job Description



We are currently seeking an experienced Cost Analyst at Standard Motor Products, Inc. Engine Management’s Distribution Center. 

Requirements (include but not limited to):


Responsible for the initiation and maintenance of cost controls, policies, standard procedures and systems to achieve accurate facility financial information.  This is accomplished through a comprehensive analysis of financial transactions to identify problems, recommend solutions and drive implementation of improved practices, tools, and policies.


  • Ability to provide costing of new parts as well as parts that have changed cost at the manufacturing location.  Tracks changes in raw materials and manufacturing methods to determine effects on costs. Provide costing input for quarterly/yearly cost rolls.  Communicates actual manufacturing costs and prepares periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs with explanations of variances.  Makes recommendations for cost efficiencies in new product layouts and makes estimates of new and proposed product cost.

Reconciliation and Records Management

  • Conducts monthly/yearly financial reports for review by Financial Manager, including but not limited to:  Budget versus actual comparison of expenses, Reconciliation of perpetual inventory to general ledger, analysis of PPV with explanations to large variances, and reconciliation for facility checking account and Petty Cash distribution.  Prepare, with review by Financial Manger quarterly facility forecast and yearly budget.  Communication with internal and external auditors on a quarterly/yearly basis.

Process Flow and Tracking

  • Traces history of items to determine reasons for discrepancies between inventory and stock control records and recommends remedies to resolve discrepancies.  Demonstrated ability to do root cause analysis on exceptions from cycle counts and daily reconciliation of inventory records.  Analysis will include:  reporting differences, documenting known errors, performing system testing and leading continuous improvements meetings.









Job Requirements

Education and Experience: 


  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university. 3-5 years cost accounting experience.  Experience in a manufacturing environment helpful.
  • Experience with manufacturing and cost accounting systems preferred – preferably JDE.
