Job Description

Established in 1919 and traded on the NYSE, Standard Motor Products, Inc., (SMP) is a leading independent manufacturer, distributor, and marketer of replacement parts for motor vehicles in the automotive aftermarket industry, with a complementary focus on heavy duty, industrial equipment and original equipment markets.

We are organized into two operating segments. Each segment focuses on providing our customers with full-line coverage of its products, and a full suite of complementary services that are tailored to our customers’ business needs and driving end-user demand for our products. Our Engine Management Segment manufactures and distributes a full line of critical components for the ignition, electrical, emissions, fuel and safety-related systems of motor vehicles. Our Temperature Control Segment manufactures and distributes a full line of critical components for the temperature control (air conditioning and heating) systems, engine cooling systems, power window accessories and windshield washer systems of motor vehicles.

We sell our products primarily to automotive aftermarket retailers, program distribution groups, warehouse distributors, original equipment manufacturers and original equipment service part operations in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, Mexico and other Latin American countries.

We employ approximately 4,300 people in North America, Europe and Asia.

Job Purpose

The Product Specialist will support our product management team to accurately and efficiently bring new products to market.   

Duties and Responsibilities


•         Research and bring new product to market in a timely manner


•         Maintain and update all interchanges accurately for all competitors


•         Research and maintain all catalog data


•         Ability to manage efficiently multiple projects


•         Take leadership on special projects as directed


•         Ability to talk to customers with special needs or problems

Job Requirements/Qualifications:


•         Bachelor’s degree in Marketing/Business preferred.  If not, 2-4 years related work experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 


•         Basic car knowledge and automotive experience.


•         Excellent interpersonal communications skills.  Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical vendors/customers/employees.


•         Strong written communication skills.  Candidate should possess ability to write clear, well thought out documentation, memos, letters, etc.


•         Ability to read, understand and create technical documents as related to the company’s products and services.


•         Excellent PC skills; advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.


•         Good analytical and problem solving skills; Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret situations and adjust effort accordingly.


•         Meet deadlines consistently.


•         Ability to work on various tasks without sacrificing quality of work.


•         Good organizational skills. 

Basic Requirements:


•         No written counseling’s inclusive of COE’s for Attendance, Conduct, Safety or Quality within the prior two year period
