Established in 1919 and traded on the NYSE, Standard Motor Products, Inc., (SMP) is a leading independent manufacturer, distributor, and marketer of replacement parts for motor vehicles in the automotive aftermarket industry, with a complementary focus on heavy duty, industrial equipment and original equipment markets.

We are organized into two operating segments. Each segment focuses on providing our customers with full-line coverage of its products, and a full suite of complementary services that are tailored to our customers’ business needs and driving end-user demand for our products. Our Engine Management Segment manufactures and distributes a full line of critical components for the ignition, electrical, emissions, fuel and safety-related systems of motor vehicles. Our Temperature Control Segment manufactures and distributes a full line of critical components for the temperature control (air conditioning and heating) systems, engine cooling systems, power window accessories and windshield washer systems of motor vehicles.

We sell our products primarily to automotive aftermarket retailers, program distribution groups, warehouse distributors, original equipment manufacturers and original equipment service part operations in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, Mexico and other Latin American countries.

We employ approximately 4,300 people in North America, Europe and Asia.

SMP Lewisville Distribution Center - Job Description

Position:         Q.A. Inspector

Date:               January 4, 2023

Department:  Receiving

Reports to:     Q.A. Manager

Shift:               1st (5:45AM – 2:30PM)

Type:               Hourly


Job Purpose:

Position is responsible for maintaining all quality related task as defined in the Quality Management System.  This includes inspecting, testing, in-house audits and report submission.

Duties and Responsibilities:

•         Review and follow quality system procedures and instructions

•         Inspect, test, sampling and/or sorting of components and finished goods received from suppliers

•         Perform first article layout inspections

•         Perform appropriate record keeping as defined by quality management system

•         Segregate non-conforming material, generate report for failures, and follow up.

•         Performs other work-related duties as required

•         Must be able to work over time when required



•         HS diploma or equivalent certification

•         Basic knowledge of ISO 9001 Requirements

•         Must know Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook

•         Excellent oral/written communication skills

•         Read and perform basic mathematical calculations

•         Ability to multitask; strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills

•         Use quality related instruments such as calipers, micrometers, indicators, height gauge, etc.

•         Ability to work from blueprints, drawings, sketches and engineering specifications

•         Follow instructions/directions with minor supervision and able make a decision based on data

•         Self-motivated individual willing and able to take initiative as well as work in team environment

•         Ability to lift 40 - 60 lb.

•         Other physical demands: constant standing and walking; occasional bending/stooping

Working Conditions


The operator will be working in the warehouse which is not climate controlled.  The temperature will vary from cold to hot depending on the time of year.  At times the operator will be subject to dust, noise, moving vehicles, working in high places (dependent on position) and moving mechanical parts.  The operator is expected to work assigned shift hours (Days/Evenings/Nights) and overtime corresponding with their shift schedule.  Due to seasonal business conditions, assigned shift hours may include 7 days/week and holidays as required by customer needs.

Physical Requirements


Warehouse positions require frequent standing, walking, reaching, pushing, pulling and occasional bending/stooping.  Assigned work requires lifting of parts/inventory ranging from 5-20 lbs. frequently, 30-50 lbs. occasionally and up to 70 lbs. infrequently.  These positions may also require use of equipment such as a headset, RF gun scanner, pallet jack, forklift or computer.
