  • Reports to: Resale Business Unit Purchasing Manager

    General: 

     

    Established in 1919 and traded on the NYSE, Standard Motor Products, Inc., (SMP) is a leading independent manufacturer, distributor, and marketer of replacement parts for motor vehicles in the automotive aftermarket industry, with an increasing focus on the original equipment and original equipment service markets. 

     

    SMP, Inc.’s Resale Business Unit, based in Disputanta, Virginia is responsible for the procurement of a significant portion of the items sold by SMP, Inc.’s largest division, Engine Management.  They are currently recruiting to fill two new Jr. Buyer roles.

    Responsibilities:

    • Manages established suppliers with more proven and stable performance trends
    • Works with senior buyers on price negotiation strategies as appropriate
    • Reviews supplier and part settings to ensure system data integrity
    • Works with suppliers, logistics providers and various internal personnel to ensure on time deliveries
    • Participates in meetings covering supplier product issues.
    • Interact with the Quality department to resolve issues.
    • Participate in the documentation and sample preparation for International low cost sources of supply utilizing our HK-IPO office.

Job Requirements

  • Qualifications

    • Detail oriented
    • Strong problem solving skills; strong mathematics aptitude
    • Exemplary attendance required
    • Strong interpersonal skills; must be able to work in a team environment
    • Self-starter, highly motivated, works without constant supervision
    • Achieve familiarity with various JDE (mainframe) system generated reports.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point)
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills (significant phone and E-mail work required)

    Education

    • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business, finance, engineering or related field
    • GPA 3.0 or better
