Job Description

The Continuous Improvement Engineer for SMP, Inc.’s Lewisville, TX location is responsible for analyzing problems using engineering, business (financial), logistics, and human resources-related principles while developing solutions to such problems. Develop new approaches and techniques to labor-management in order to improve productivity and accuracy within the distribution network.

Essential Functions:

  • Reviews employees and department productivity and partners with operations to develop action plans to improve performance
  • Directs or conducts studies to ascertain the best sequence of operations or workflow.
  • Recommends methods to ensure the maximum utilization of facilities and human resources.
  • Prepares cost estimates for assigned projects.
  • Identifies and develops best practices / SOP’s to improve efficiency and provides consistent output at the distribution center
  • Recommends and implements material handling and information systems that encompass distribution
  • Develops financial and operational plans on a daily, weekly, and annual basis
  • May assist in establishing accident prevention measures and production operations training programs
  • Additional duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the key accountabilities of the job required
  • 3-5 years’ experience required; distribution environment preferred
  • Lean Six Sigma certification (Min. Green Belt)
  • Proficiency in Process Improvement utilizing Lean Six Sigma
  • Experience with time studies, work measurement, engineering standards, and data collections
  • Proficient in Excel, Access, Auto CAD, MS office
  • Macro or VBA experience and SQL a plus
  • Ability to develop ROI for capital projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning)
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as, internal and external clients
  • Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience with voice based picking systems.
  • Experience in Warehouse and Distribution environment utilizing Engineered Labor Standards.

  • Regularly/Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually low/moderate.
